Computational Science of Religion

2021

This article provides a basic overview of the most common methods of computer modelling and simulation that are currently being used to study religion. It focuses on the use (and illustrates the value) of system dynamics models, agent-based models, including game theory and multi-agent artificial intelligence models, and artificial neural networks. General use case examples are provided, and considerations for future research are discussed. We conclude by encouraging scholars interested in religion and related fields to incorporate techniques from the computational science of religion into their collaborative methodological toolkits.

Electric conduction in solids: a pedagogical approach supported by laboratory measurements and computer modelling environments

2008

In this paper we present a pedagogic approach aimed at modeling electric conduction in semiconductors, built by using NetLogo, a programmable modeling environment for building and exploring multi‐agent systems. ‘Virtual experiments’ are implemented to confront predictions of different microscopic models with real measurements of electric properties of matter, such as resistivity. The relations between these electric properties and other physical variables, like temperature, are, then, analyzed.

Project-based learning in a computer modelling course

2021

AbstractThe paper reports authors’ experience of implementing educational projects in a computer modelling course offered to the students majoring in “Secondary Education (Computer Science)” at Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University. We analyze approaches to teaching mathematical and computer modelling such as: integration of modelling tasks, naturalistic case study, using of role-playing games, possibilities of STEM-education, motivation and positive attitude to modelling training, etc. Then we illustrate the implementation of the project to study the population dynamics of the grape snail Helix pomatia. The implementation of the project splits into several stages: form…

Electromagnetic Hyperthermia — Foundations and Computer Modelling

2006

The usage of heating power as a healing system has been well-known for long time. A completely new motivation, however, came up when heat treating was recognized as a new and promising form of cancer therapy. It was found that cancer growth was stopped at temperature higher than about 42 C. It created new subject of research in the area of application of electromagnetic fields in medicine. In the paper the two main methods of heating have been described and two kinds of devices have been presented. Some advantages and drawbacks of the methods are discussed.

Mechanical And Thermophysical Properties Of Polymers And Chemical Structure: From Computer Simulations To Experimental Data

1988

Chemical structure is related to properties on the basis of results of computer modelling of mechanical behavior. An equation for the shift factor aT,c dependent on temperature T and concentration c is provided, connection to the chain relaxation capability noted, and potential application range of the approach discussed. Constituents of free volume are defined, and effects of individual constituents on mechanical properties.
